We have my MIL in a granny flat (82) and she hasn't been well since before Xmas, colds/flu, tired etc and she's had a had tremor for some time. In the last week she drove to the docs for her usual prescription stuff came home fine, but then when we got hom could stand/walk, dissorientated etc. Next day she was much better, and the cycle kind of repeats.

We took her to hospital on Saturday evening (A&E) as she was really bad, couldn't eat (hand shake) kept dropping her glass or water etc, they kept her in but discharged her yesterday back into our care. However she can't walk, eat, get to the loo etc.

Looking on-line at all of the symptoms it looks like parkinsons disease, but I'm baffled why her GP has never suggested this or the hospital confirmed this. It's causing a lot of stress at home as we work 9-5 Mon-Fri without the commute and my wife couldn't go into work today due to how bad her mum is.

We're looking at carers and what the next steps are, but wondering if the masses have any advice as this is all new to us.

Not a lot I can add other than to suggest the helpline on this website, I know they've been a good source of support and information for others. I hope it gets sorted out.

Sudden deterioration, especially being confused/disoriented when they were fine not long before, is kinda classic old person water infection territory, isn't it? Has she seen the GP about these recent symptoms and had her pee tested?

That might be on top of Parkinson's, or not, but someone medical probably ought to check because it's a remarkably effective fix if it IS a UTI, three days into a week long course of the right antibiotics the change can be amazing.
