Well I must have the flu, for the first time in my life at the ripe old age of 41! I have mocked folk before, thinking they were at it, acting up on a sniffle or mild cold, but feck me, the past 2 days have been awful!!! Never again will I take the pi55!!! Sore joints, throat in agony, hot sweats! The paint is running down the walls in here with the heat, and I am still cold!!!

What's the best way to deal with it then folk? I've been keeping hydrated, ibuprofen/paracetamol and some cough linctus. I'm just about to pull the bed sheets out the laundry in preparation for another thrashy, sweaty night! Lol.

I'll be getting the flu jab next year!!!

That's it really, plenty of fluids and alternate Ibuprofen / Paracetamol up to the maximum the packet says you're allowed per day. Sweat it out whilst watching some old drivel on TV if you can. I know when I had proper flu years ago I was counting down the minutes and seconds until I could have the next dose of medication. Found Lemsip quite a good way to take the paracetamol as it was faster acting. Whilst I was over the worst of it after about a week it was over a month later before I felt like I'd really recovered. Good luck!

A week!!?? A month!!?? eek Uh oh! I was hoping today, day 3, was hopefully me getting over it, and back to slight normality tomorrow! Looks like I better bunker down and check out some box sets! I did hit the sauna this afternoon and took a family size bottle of Olbas Oil with me for the coals. I did feel slightly better, but it's welling back up already!

Heavy PJays, dressing gown, double duvets and sweat the bugger out.

Loads of liquids, tea, toast and tomato soup.

As much drugs as you can safely do.

I feel for you brother.

The OH had the proper flu some years ago.

You really know if you have it, she was crippled for 2 weeks - and she's a medic double-hard-bd.

What is adding to the frustration is the st TV through the night when I can't sleep! I was reluctant to get out of bed, and as I don't have SKY/VM in the bedroom, and my Firestick is on the blink, last night consisted of Bullseye Xmas Special from 1992, a couple of Catchphrase episodes, some Police, Camera Action, that was so old it should have been B&W! I also nearly bought a memory foam mattress for £99.99 with a 60 day money back guarantee...........Lol.

Gonna head to the shop and get the provisions you suggested Mothersruin. The Tomato Soup sounds good. Think I will get a bottle of Tabasco for it too, spice it up, and help the sweats! I need some more paracetamol and ibuprofen into the bargain! paperbag

Meh. I had what I thought was the flu. A week later it was just getting worse and worse. Went to doc and within half an hour was in intensive care, wired up to drips, kidney failure, the lot. Turned out to be Weil's disease.

Magic!! Thanks for this!! This came on me on Tuesday, and was in the boozer on Monday! Let's hope it wasn't a bottle that a rat had pissed on then! frown

Yeah, this^. I always thought flu was a slightly worse cold. Until I got it. Never again will I sneer at the mention of anti-flu jabs for certain sections of society.

I sent my OH out to stock up on more Lemsip and the like as I'd exhausted supplies and she was gone for 2 hours.

"Where have you been?" I ask.

"Getting your stuff but I popped into Primark and M&S while I was down there". banghead

I promptly threw up. That showed 'er!

I've had flu a couple of times in my life, the most recent being about 15 years ago. After two weeks I felt a little better and went to work, only to collapse and have to be brought home for another couple of weeks.

I couldn't drink water fast enough to replenish that I lost through sweating some days.

The best thing about flu is that I could not remember much about it.

Well I thought it couldn't get worse, but yesterday and last night were awful!

The restlessness and sweating was at an all time high, and I swear I nearly slipped into a state of delirium!!!!

The fits of coughing were like having javelin puncture my chest!!!

What really helped was when the other half piped up with.......'you don't do sickness too well, do you!??'. She was lucky I could reach enough to pull a javelin from my chest!

I got a bit of understanding from a guy I work with though. He called to see how I was, as he had the lurgy a fortnight ago. What never helped was the fact he had it 10 days. frown

I'm on day 8, and finally starting to feel human again, but throat, cough, and fluctuating fever look set to be with me a little longer.

I had flu once before about fifteen years ago, but this bout was worse, it's literally the most sick I've ever been my whole life, and at the worst of it I was wondering how it was possible to be so sick yet still be alive!!

I too will be getting flu jabs from now on, not sure I'd have the resolve to survive two bouts in any sort of succession.

It's better to visit a doctor who can make the right diagnosis. Last time I had a flu I visited 24 hour urgent care dallas https://frontlineer.com/ near me without waiting. The doctor prescribed me the right treatment and in two weeks I was sufficiently recovered. I think you shouldn't ignore the symptoms, consult with a specialist.
Can't report this for some reason but mods, can you possibly remove this serial spammer? Just have a look at past threads...

As a bloke, I don't do the doctor thing unless dragged etc..

Thought I'd better this afternoon.

Came down with a cold on Tuesday and took my own advice above.

This morning around eleven I started having heart palpitations and my pulse rocketed. My resting rate is in the 50s, this was up to 170 and irregular. OK. Don't panic and observe. Stuck on my running HRM to keep an eye on things. By relaxing I got it down to around 115 but it would jump at any movement. Then it started dropping to a regular 80 for ten seconds then jump back up to 160, did this a few times then calmed down. Then it dropped again to 80 then whooshed up to 252 according to the HRM. I did feel a bit odd then.

Ok, now I'm suitably impressed.

Walked up to the local surgery with all contact details etc.. for my wife who's away at the moment, in my pockets, plus the cold and flu stuff I'd been taking in case I fall over on the way up. My thinking was it was all the caffeine in the cold medication, the nasal spray and having a cup of tea.

Straight in when I explained, ecg and the doc says that I've actually had a rather nasty virus and it's attacked my heart amongst other things. That's why it's gone haywire. Rapid Atrial Fibrilation it seems.

She said it'll probably sort itself out as the body sorts out the virus. If not, I need to get zapped to kick start the normal rhythm.

I did think I was feeling a bit rough.

Bearer of bad news, day 8 was a turning point until a few hours ago, then got the shivers and shakes again, extreme fatigue, ended up sleeping, but as anyone who has had this knows, its not sleep, its a chance for your body to overheat itself, so when you wake up you literally couldn't roll yourself out of a burning bed with fever and fatigue.

Sitting here with those awful uncontrollable shakes where you feel colder than you believed possible, but can't warm yourself as you need to cool yourself instead.

Please let this end soon

I've had flu twice in 42 years. You know you have flu when you're in bed covered in every piece of bedding you own and wearing every piece of clothing you possess, but you're still shivering. Then you're so hot that you sweat buckets and soak everything. Then you're freezing again and now the sweat you're soaked in has gone cold. And you're so exhausted you can't even post on PH. For several days on the trot.

Smiler.

That can also be symptomatic

I've had proper flu exactly once.

Was praying for death.
