Not THAT kind of massage.................

About 10 years ago I had a neck massage on a cruise ship - the lady really pressed into the tissue around my neck, behind the ears and along the base of the skull, and it was a revelation - afterwards I had a clarity of thought and alertness for a couple of weeks that I've never had since. It felt like she was popping bubble wrap lol

I have had a couple of other massages over the years since, and when I ask if they can do my neck, they will, but its nothing like as effective. Seems too gentle and concentrating on the shoulders/lower neck.

Is there some kind of name for the massage I described above?

I have a deep tissue massage monthly on back, neck and shoulders, firnd a reputable place and ask for the same, the masseuse if good should ask if the pressure is ok, you just either say no or 'firmer please'

Can you remember what cruise? Most have training schools and train loads of staff each year, all you need is to find out who was trained in what. I'd wager a bet she was Steiner trained.

If you give me a rough indication of where in the country you are I can make a recommendation from there (my business encompasses this industry).

It would have been Royal Carribean. Around 2007?

I'm near Kettering :-) Tried a couple of local ones but nothing comes close.

Cheers

I have a massage once a month from a bloke in London who's superb....been going for about ten years and I never bother having one now if I am say away in a hotel on holiday nothing comes close. The work he did on my shoulder after I dislocated it a couple of years ago was nothing short of a miracle.

With specfic reference to your question OP if you're ever in London I would absolutely recommend him. He does the type of massage you describe and even goes up a bit higher and works around the scalp...you'd be surprised how effective that is too.
