Broke a tooth off yesterday...

20 years ago I had a root canal in a small front tooth, right next to the big front ones. Yesterday I bit into a sandwich and snapped it clean off at the base!

So, today I went to the dentist to have a check up and get it sorted.

Check up, two fillings in other teeth, three X-rays and a post insert tooth repair thing will be £930

I could buy a lot of bike parts for that money.

Thats pretty reasonable if its an implant. I was quoted towards £3k for a rear upper molar implant as the existing tooth is on its way out

That will not be an implant, it will be a restorative post and core into the existing root.

That's the one. If it were a back tooth I'd just have it removed, but this is right up front.

Teeth don't just snap in half. They are the hardest substance in the human body and highly mineralised. Probably worth getting a doc checkup and some blood tests for calcium levels, vitamin D, iron, cholesterol, etc.

Seriously? It's a RCT'd (dead) tooth of twenty years standing.

Just how do you think it will be affected by these factors when it has no blood supply?

I floss two or three times a day, pretty obsessive about it, as a dentist once showed me years ago what was trapped between some of my teeth even after a real good brushing. And it smelt real bad....

As for the strength of the tooth, it has had the guts drilled out, a filling in one side, is pretty thin anyway, and is about 54 years old. I'd say it has had a pretty good innings really.
