Hi all
I have some time off work from tomorrow for a few weeks and plan a little road trip on my push bike for a few days, probably covering 80-100 miles per day.
I have ridden long distances before but no more than 60 miles and have always returned home. This time I plan on being out for a few days.
My plan is to take it steady and just enjoy being outside and the ride but my question is what's the best food/snacks to keep going all day in the saddle that I can carry in my rucksack?
Thanks.

I did the Raid Pyrenees last year which was about 790km with 16,000m of climbing over 4 and a half days. Obviously food was of great importance - I generally relied upon what I would call proper food, rather than the energy gels, which I did have but only as a last resort. So mostly my back pockets would be made up of stuff like flapjacks, fig rolls, and also a constant supply of jelly babies and wine gums. When the energy levels start to deplete sometimes it's nice to have something sweet on the palate. Also half way through each stage we were provided with a picnic type lunch which would consist of baguettes filled with tuna or ham - something of that nature, followed by lots of fruit.

I recently did a 200km cycle and on advice of a friend who is one of the best 100km runners in the country I used Tailwind, which I can entirely recommend. If you're not used to gels you may well suffer from gut bombs, so I wouldn't recommend those personally.

Otherwise, along the lines of the above, but also eat normal did like sandwiches etc also, when you finish something salty will probably good if you've sweated a lot
