What are Prescription Sunglasses.

Yea I know what they look like, but not sure if they are suitable.

I need glasses for reading mine are reactolite varifocals I wear them all the time they are clear/infinity for distance and I know they don't tint when driving due to the windscreen uva/b filters.

How does this equate to buying prescription sunglasses in relation to looking forward/driving are they graduated in focal strength, if not they seem to be no better than a pair of reading glasses albeit tinted.

Generally speaking, frames permitting, I think you should be able to get your exact prescription for sunglasses. I'm in a similar but reverse situation. I'm short sighted and wear varifocal specs with UV sensitive lenses. For everyday life they are fantastic, and I don't need sunglasses, but as you rightly point out, the UV sensitivity doesn't work very well in a car, so I just close my eyes

Varifocals are expensive, so I may just get some single vision prescription sunnies. You may get away with normal sunglassses but you probably won't be able to read your instruments?

Give Optilabs a shout, they seem to be able to make up stronger prescriptions than other similar services can and were helpful when I was speaking to them.

so in essence they are no better than varifocals reactolites apart from they are tinted all the time, not really any good for a person who needs readers most of the time then wants to walk down the beach road whatever as your distance view will be blurred that is unless you go the full hog getting varifocal sunglasses then the price certainly mounts up.

They are just permanently tinted lenses of your prescription in a sunglasses frame. You are limited to the style and frames you can have too because lots of modern sunglasses are curved and the prescription (read glasses lenses) can't achieve that

I have just had my eyes tested and prescription altered today.
Vision Express are very good and recommended a pair of prescription Poleroid lenses for driving.These will cut down glare.
I purchased a full price pair of standard glasses with light weight varifocal lenses so a second pair were half price.I was given a further 20% off the total bill for being over 60.One of the benefits of being old!
