Missing immune system?!
Discussion
Anyone else developed this?!
It seems that for unknown reasons I was born without a decent immune system and pretty much catch anything going. I would say I have relatively good fitness, run 10+ miles a week but if I hit the gym for a couple of times in succession I will be guaranteed to catch cough/ cold / aids / malaria - you name it. I have two kids at home who love to pass on any germs they possibly can but its got to a point where its getting ridiculous. I've now spent the last month with another cold which in the height of summer is a pisser!
Has anyone ever managed to boost their immune system successfully? I was diagnosed with Vit D deficiency which made me tired, that's seems to be under control with tablets but my immune system seems to of gone missing (in 40s now but been a problem all my life).
Any tips appreciated. (I've tried general multi vits but no difference)

This may well not apply to you and might seem obvious but frequent hand washing (rather than using antibacterial gel which doesn't kill things like norovirus), plenty of sleep and not touching your face are good general tips to avoid getting viral illnesses.
Some people believe in high dose vitamin C and my understanding is this probably reduces the duration but not frequency of colds, but if you've tried multivitamins these probably have as much vit C in as you need.
The odd thing is, in general it's not the virus itself that makes you feel ill, it's your immune system's response to it so actually you might have a very healthy immune system that is almost doing its job too well!
The other thing to consider, particularly at this time of year, is if you've actually got a touch of hay fever and whether trying an antihistamine for a bit would help, if there are no other reasons to avoid one depending on your medical history.
Just my thoughts.

It's the kids! When our two first started at nursery it was like biological warfare. Never had so many colds and stomach bugs, really seemed never ending. This culminated with a chesty cough I couldn't shift after I'd had to spend several weeks comforting my daughter in the middle of the night as we were trying to get her off the boob and if my missus went to her that's all she'd want.
To cut a long story short I got diagnosed with Sarcoidosis which is actually related to an overactive immune system, this was eventually treated with steroids that suppress your immune system and I had yet more illness. Now I'm tempting fate with this but the kids seem to have got most stuff out of their systems so much so that my eldest got a certificate for 100% attendance in the last academic year. I've also been taking a multivitamin daily for what must be well over a year now, it's a "Men's Health" one from Savers, and haven't had any significant bugs. Odd spells where I've felt a bit off colour but it doesn't develop into anything. It's a bit unnerving having been well for so long. Also coincides with me deciding to try and get fit so I've been running 3 times a week for well over a year, not sure if the exercise helps but I simply won't stop it for any little snivel or whatever.
