As the OP has had his issue resolved and rather than start a new thread can I ask a dentist's advice?

I'm looking at an 'upgrade' in the tooth department. Scaffolding is not required but I want to improve on what the NHS have given me over the last 40yrs. I'm going to have to go private for this as it will be classed as 'cosmetic' and my NHS dentist won't replace the crowns as he wants to leave alone without looking for trouble, although probably he wouldn't get funding approval.

Now my teeth aren't that bad (no pun) and I've only had one tooth, an upper molar, extracted approx 15yrs ago and the gap has been replaced with a fiexed bridge where the adjacent teeth have been 'crowned'. I've also got 5 x NHS crowns top front (one coverted to a post) to 'straighten them out' as my NHS dentist in the 80s put it so he could do the work private! In additon two molar/premolar crowns to replace teeth that have broken and couldn't be repaired any more. Several have been 'built up' where they have chipped etc. Also several large metal fillings with some having had root canal work.

What I want to do is replace all crowns with a decent set, replace the 'bridge' with an implant and presumably fix two adjacent crowns, swap metal fillings for white.

Whilst there is a cosmetic dentist down the road who has a 'collection' of supercars, wears plenty of bling and by all accounts does a good job but won't be cheap and I suspect I can find someone with equal skill at a better price.

Roughly how much will it cost - will it be under £10k and any recommendations for a dentist in Manchester area who has a good rep although I'm prepared to travel (except india) for the right work?

I had the following done about 10 years privately:

4 root canals, plus crowns (not as bad as it sounds)
1 extraction (broken wisdom tooth)
4 fillings replaced (amalgam to white - two of them had failed and the other two had handed their notice in)
1 new white filling
Assorted x-rays, consultations etc etc

Cost to me, paid in one lump was a shade under £5K. However that was 10 years ago and obviously it all depends on what other pathology the dentist picks up whilst firking about.

I can recommend my dentist, he is only about 20 miles from Manchester and would probably be able to book you in for a consultation and provide an estimate.

Armitage shanks - impossible to comment on amount of work required/cost without a full assessment and xrays/study models. However sounds relatively straightforward. i am in Manchester and would be happy to give you my opinion
