elderly relative keeps blacking out - no reason

my MIL is 85, has dementia but still recognises us, happy in her care home with all of her gang but we had a call to say she had fallen, possibly fractured her wrist, trip to the hospital xray confirms this. wrist is put into a cast, we take her back to the home many hours later, then few hours later home calls to say she keeps blacking out/no reaction to her face so she is on her way to hospital in an ambulance. kept in the AOU dept, blood pressure and heart ok, kept in for a couple of days, then get the green light to take her back to the home. all happy again then phone call again to say she is blacking out/unresponsive again. another trip in the ambulance and currently on the geriatric ward.

she has worn a heart monitor which we are waiting to see what that has shown if anything. her weight is worrying 8 stone 5 at the last weigh in. Has any one any idea or avenue that we can try or tests to push for to see why she is just zoning out. as if she has gone, we are really scared the next time it could be her head and face that she falls on, with worse results.

Postural hypotension?

A drop in blood pressure when going from lying to seated or seated to standing.
If she is unresponsive then TIA's or an erratic heart rhythm are probably more likely.

The differential for blacking out at that age is rather long I'm afraid and the main thing is to continue to investigate until the cause has been identified rather than try a couple of things which turn out to be ok then give up looking. One thing is to review her regular medications. What's she normally on?

My mum was having falls in her sixties - she was over-medicated. Resting heart rate sub-50 and she's no athlete. They reviewed her medication and that sorted it.

Could be epilepsy. Quite common in old age apparently.
