Turbo trainer or spin bike??

I need to do some fasted cardio on a morning and won't be able to get out in the bike with the winter coming up. Should I get a spin bike for the spare room or a turbo trainer been looking at this one but to he honest I know nothing about them. Turbo trainer linked to a laptop, then you can go zwifting.

Does it work with an iPad? What is zwifting??

I think some of the later iPads are compatible to run with Zwift but I'm not entirely sure. Zwift is an interactive platform where you compete with other riders virtually, from around the world on the internet. Google it, it's hugely addictive.

No you need wireless capability

Do a bit of research on smart trainers. Tacx are a good starting point but there are loads of types which will link with apps. I'd go as far as saying buying one without this functionality is a waste of money. Wiggle is probably better stocked than Halfords http://www.wiggle.co.uk/?s=smart+trainer

Will increase your budget a bit but the ability to use apps like zwift and trainer road will significantly increase the likelihood of you using it and getting fitter as a result.

Static trainers aren't much cop until you're into Wattbike territory

Not ideal if you want to use zwift. Zwift really needs a smart trainer, one which can be controlled by the training program and reports how much power you are generating.

Zwift is subscription based £8?/month, if you want to run it on an ipad, it needs to be a fairly recent one.

You can still have a very good quality workout on zwift on a non smart trainer

For the same price you can get a smart trainer though.

Although having tried to do an FTP test on Zwift this morning and had erg mode fail to disengage, a non-smart trainer would have been better!

I do like the idea of a smart trainer I'll do some research I love the idea of a bit online competition.
