Just found a tick attached to me a few days after visiting Wales, pulled it off of my lower body and had cold/flu like symptoms, fever and muscle ache.
My GP has prescribed Amoxicillin, had a blood test, with another to follow and booked in for a tetanus as it's been quite a while.
Anyone been through this before as a precaution?

There has been a fair bit of publicity about tick bites recently.

I had one recently which I didnt notice for possibly 4-5 days until it was biggish. Pulling it out was a right nightmare and I made a bit of a pigs ear of it, so popped down to A+E. No symptoms, but the nurse gave me a week of antibiotic just to be on the safe side.

Ticks carry/transmit Lymes disease in the UK too. I have had it... Not (usually) a huge issue if you treat early. Better to take precautionary antibiotics than wind up paralysed or worse.
Reading up on the disease is pretty frightening, I feel lucky to have only suffered a couple of weeks with bad flu like symptoms.

My wife now has Lymes disease after a tick bite, the massive dose of antibiotics they gave her initialy also knocked out the bacteria in her gut so took a couple of years to get that back on track.
Lymes re-occurs a couple of times a year and is triggered by stress mainly, its an auto immune thing so people tend get lots of other ailments at the same time, hope you dont have it.
You can live alongside it tho, there are things that help and you learn to recognise the onset very quickly and take very early steps to help it, everyone has different symptoms tho for different lymes, USA tend to get the MS similar version thats really dibilitating fortunately europs version is more manageable, everyone reacts differently to different treatments, modern medicine seems on the whole pretty useless but lots get good results from acupuncture weirdly, maybe because of nervous system related.

I got a tick bite (whilst in Canada) and ended up with Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever which is a nasty ailment and can be potentially fatal. Luckily my GP had trained in tropical medicine many decades before and I was given the appropriate treatment quickly.
Hopefully the course of anti biotics will have sorted you out.
Going off at a tangent, there was a feature on Radio 4 about ME / Chronic fatigue syndrome earlier this week which mentioned that in some instances people suffering from ME / CFS had undiagnised Lymes disease.

My 3 year old got a tick. I read LOTS into it. Whatever you do in the future so NOT pull it out yourself. Go to drs/minor injuries and get it professionally removed. I read a research paper that compared people who removed the tick themselves Vs a professional and the chances of getting Lyme's (in the US), it's was something like 5% Vs 0.2% respectively.

I contracted tick fever in South Africa some years ago and I think that it debilitated me for a considerable period afterwards. I was lucky, like a previous poster, in that I was diagnosed by a doctor who had just returned from a two year stint in Zimbabwe.
I wouldn't wish it on anyone.
