I am sitting in a restaurant in Nottingham, and there must be a bodybuilding comp going on locally because there is a constant stream of massive orange blokes waddling past.
What a bunch of freaks. I am surprised how many of them are smoking too.
Being and looking fit is commendable, but bodybuilding is just an aberration.
Tell me I am wrong.

Yeah, it's an extreme form of exercise, catering to a niche. Judging by the amount of bodybuilders that die young, it's not exactly the healthiest. However, if it's done right, there's nothing wrong with it. Playing around with drugs is always risky, but seeing 70 year old bodybuilders that look like they're in their 40's shows that if drugs are taken in moderation, it could have a beneficial effect.
As a "sport", though, it's ridiculous.

are you sure you aren't in hooters?
Just as well I am not, because i imagine Hooters is short a waitress or two as a result of them accompanying their boyfriends to the aforementioned bodybuilding contest. Lots of orange females with plastic tits accompanying the orange freaksSo - normally I’d have read this post and thought ‘jeez what a nob that (So) guy is; there’s no need to be so unnecessarily mean” ...but as it happens, I was also in Nottingham on Sat, and I spent a good hour sat outside the strip watching the competitors walk past so I know exactly what you’re talking about.
My wife and chatted with several of them and they were all perfectly friendly.
So on that basis, I thought I’d make the effort to explicitly tell you you’ve been unecessarily mean.
Also, FWIW I didn’t see any girls with their fake tits hanging out; they were all covered up in baggy tracksuits. (BELIEVE ME, I tried...

They weren't all orange. One chap had clearly decked himself out with Heinz tomato soup.My wife and chatted with several of them and they were all perfectly friendly.

The girls witk fake tits didn't have them hanging out, nor have I said they did. But they were a certain type - a type to which orange freaks are welcome.
TBH all the BBs I speak to, and there are a few, are very pleasant and, dare I say it, soft lads. But I still think their hobby is fricking stupid. It has nothing to do with healthy resistance training.

Totally agree that the sport of bodybuilding has nothing to do with functional training, and I think the ‘60-80s and the “scientific concept” of training muscles in isolation plus the androgynous female bodybuilder-look did a lot of damage to the public’s perception of weight training.
But thankfully now, gyms are packed with people, with a higher proportion of young girls, many of whom are at least _trying_ to squat.

I just need to check - you guys all know that the colour is just for the actual show, and it’s like that because of how it makes the muscles look under the stage lights - right?
I mean, these people aren’t just wandering around like that all the time, and they also know it looks rediculous.
They guys in Nottingham were either grabbing a box of doughnuts/ five guys or were just nipping our for supplies between sessions. Seems a bit mean to judge them on that basis.

They were orange and they were freaks. By next week they may not be orange.I mean, these people aren’t just wandering around like that all the time, and they also know it looks rediculous.

Yup.

The dedication, consistency and work ethic of these 'freaks' likely dwarves these attributes in 99% of the population. It's an entire life style.
You may not understand it, and as such, dislike it. But the vast majority are genuine, nice guys.

I think you'll find everyone who goes on stage applies make up. That's all it is. As for freaks because of their size - marathon runners that look like gulag escapees seem freakish to me. I think all high level BB's would agree with you that they are mad, the lengths they go to to strip fat/cut can be and is unbelievable to most people!!
As has been said most of the biggest guys are really friendly, I know if I ever have to ask for assistance in the gym they are the friendliest and keenest?

One of the lads from my gym was there this Saturday, he's in insane condition, but equally really really nice.
I'd give my left testicle to look like him, but there's no way i'd put in the effort he has, so take my b
k any day..awesome work.

I agree with all the kind and all the unkind things that have been said.
For a lot of people it is (or at least is very similar to) a mental illness. But it's also what gives them meaning and helps them feel good. It's a lot less damaging than many other lifestyles that those kind of people might end up living.
The really dedicated BB types I know are quite sweet guys, for the most part. And they spend hours every day in the gym.
Those physique guys are hilarious: upper body of a man; legs of a girl.
