Cataracts and lens replacement experience and recommendation

I have been told by my optician that my blurred left eye has a cataracts, she has been watching it for a while on my past eye checks, and it's slowly getting worse. Im informed it's not bad enough yet to be referred for lens replacement on the NHS.
So I'm thinking of going privately, as it's driving me nuts because it's constantly blurred.
Has anyone on here had it done, what's the procedure, where/who is the best/safest, and a ball park figure of how much.
I live in Cheshire.

As an update my eye gas settled down, but still has a weird focal length. In focus is about 1-5 meters. I should wear glasses or contact lenses for long distance, but as my left eye is 20:20 I very rarely do.

I don't know when you had yours done but I suspect you would find it very different these days. My optician cannot even refer for evaluation until your vision has deteriorated to below the driving standard & even then, given the rationing of 'non essential' operations, there is no guarantee it will be done. I've just had both eyes done this year,my original optician said nothing would be done until vision was poor enough to prevent driving(I had slight double vision in one eye).Saw a different one who who identified that the other eye also had a cataract ,and there was no reason for them not to be done.Both were done within a couple of months of each other,on the NHS,at Gisburn Park private hospital (Lancashire),very efficient,arrived about lunchtime they did 5 or 6 operations in the afternoon.
I'm an Optometrist, in Shropshire we can refer if vision is worse than 6/12 (about driving test standard) but if the vision is better than that but the patient meets other criteria such as vision vital for occupation, glare or double vision caused by the cataract then they will usually operate.
We fill in a patient questionaire along with the referral to give more information on symptoms.
I think the price locally for surgery for cataract surgery with a straight forward single vision lens (usually focussed for distance) is £2600, although the price for a multifocal (distance and near) lens is considerably more.

I had both mine done over the past 5 years (4 years a part). Both private, no complications and about £2.5k each. I left both too long. Driving at night was becoming impossible. I now only need glasses for reading. I can drive/walk/ride all without glassses. Get them done ASAP.
