So sorry to hear that OP.

If you haven't already contact Beat: https://www.beateatingdisorders.org.uk/support-ser...

They are a fantastic ED Charity and run helplines and other services for both suffereds and Carers/parents of a sufferer.

OP - don't know where you live, but local Camhs are generally useless - they just don't know how to treat the condition.

Push as hard as you can for a referral to Great Ormond St. Their outpatient service does seem to have some positive impact. Group sessions appear to be the most effective, but you do have to be very careful of the competitive element. If your daughter sees someone who she thinks is thinner than her, it will motivate her to lose even more weight. When we were there, there were people from Bristol, Ireland, Devon - all over the UK.

If you haven't worked it out yet, you can't trust your daughter - AT ALL. She will exercise at every single opportunity - even travelling in the back seat of the car, she'll hold her feet off the floor to keep the muscles working. She will also take every single opportunity to hide food - either from her plate, or even stuff she's chewed

Don't rule out medication. Sertraline really does seem to make some difference.

I've heard of some short term (less than 6 months) cases, but in general - prepare for a long haul - a VERY long haul.

Good luck.

I knew a girl at school who suffered from this. I wish you the best in getting through it, it’s an awful situation to be in but one that you can win.

If it’s anything like what my friend went through, no matter how thin she looked and how light she became, her mind was telling her she was fat and overweight. It was terrifying.

Poor girl. I can relate, I personally suffered from this between 2015-16. 26 year old guy, 5'10", started at 13 stone and 4 months later I weighed just under 8 stone.

It started with dieting, and before long turned into bulimia, I was spending ridiculous amounts of time planning meals and worrying about carbs and calories. I quickly became addicted to a cycle of obsessive binge eating and making myself sick afterwards. Wasn't uncommon to consume over 8000 calories in a day, and under 2000 for the next week.

Ultimately, after some useful advice on here, one member sending me some friendly info, some kind words from my mum who'd went through similar in her youth, and the threat of being fired from my job, I was able to get out the cycle.

I can't emphasise the importance of family support. Be there for her and it'll help in the long run.

All the best OP, I thank my lucky stars our kids haven't been affected by something so worrying and tricky to deal with - stay positive and I hope things turn around for you all.

appreciate all the comments and insights.

spent 3 hrs trying to get her to go to hospital and was only minutes away from having to give in and call a mental health team for her to be most likely sectioned. thankfully before the ambulance came she agreed to go.

its so upsetting watching your daughter waste away and dying. We are hopeful she will recover.

Fingers crossed for you. My daughter went through pretty much what you're going through, to give you some hope she's completely normal and healthy now. It wasn't an easy couple of years...
