CRPS - anyone know anything about it

In Sept, I had major surgery on my ankle, had 8 weeks of non-weight bearing and things were all going well, until 2 weeks ago when I was suddenly hit by unbearable pain and ended up in A&E, followed by a return to see my consultant where I was told that I had CRPS.
The conversation went as follows:
DR: I think you have CRPS
Me getting out phone to make a note: CRPS?
DR: Yes and when you google it, don't get scared
Of course I looked it up before I left the hospital and it seems very nasty. To be honest, I never known pain as bad and I've had many operations on both legs and ankles (I was in car crash and smashed up both legs many years ago)
I'm interesting in getting some first hand feedback from anyone who knows about it as before this week I had never heard of it.
