Anyone take anything/methods to avoid colds/coughs
Discussion
I know we all get the odd cold or cough but in the last two years I seem to have been battered by them. Seem to get rid of one and the next is there. I’m eating well, cleaning hands regularly etc.....
I’ve heard zinc can help but have any of you got anything you take/eat or do that helps avoid them?

Stay at home on your own and never go out.
This is the answer I’ve been looking for. It will lead to divorce and loss of Home but I’ll be germ free. I’ll let you know how I feel in 6 months time
Don't want to jinx myself but since taking up running over a year ago and running outdoors three times a week whatever the weather I haven't had much by way of colds. Even if I do get something it always seems quite mild and clears up in a week. I keep running too despite any sniffles. I do also take a "Men's" multivitamin/supplement daily and I will resort to the 1000mg effervescent vitamin C tablets if I'm starting to feel iffy.
I take a combination of garlic capsules, echinacea and Vick's First Defence nasal spray if I feel like I'm getting one. I've not had a cold for some years but there has been a number of occasions when I've been sure I'm about to - sore throat, principally - taken the Vick's and got rid.
"A 2007 Cochrane review examined placebo-controlled trials involving the use of at least 200 mg/day vitamin C taken either continuously as a prophylactic treatment or after the onset of cold symptoms [80]. Prophylactic use of vitamin C did not significantly reduce the risk of developing a cold in the general population. However, in trials involving marathon runners, skiers, and soldiers exposed to extreme physical exercise and/or cold environments, prophylactic use of vitamin C in doses ranging from 250 mg/day to 1 g/day reduced cold incidence by 50%. In the general population, use of prophylactic vitamin C modestly reduced cold duration by 8% in adults and 14% in children. When taken after the onset of cold symptoms, vitamin C did not affect cold duration or symptom severity.
Overall, the evidence to date suggests that regular intakes of vitamin C at doses of at least 200 mg/day do not reduce the incidence of the common cold in the general population, but such intakes might be helpful in people exposed to extreme physical exercise or cold environments and those with marginal vitamin C status, such as the elderly and chronic smokers [80-82]. The use of vitamin C supplements might shorten the duration of the common cold and ameliorate symptom severity in the general population [79,82], possibly due to the anti-histamine effect of high-dose vitamin C. However, taking vitamin C after the onset of cold symptoms does not appear to be beneficial."

There is an old lady who knocks on our door selling witch's tears.
You put drops of it your front door which then prevents colds and helps cure AIDS.
If you do get a cold it's because someone you have displeased has put drops of wizard's semen at the end of your path.
She also sells wizard's semen.
No colds this year for me but I would love to know what the wife has been up to - she's got a stinker.

Pretty much the same for me actually. Used to be forever getting coughs, colds etc since losing weight and adopting a healthier balanced diet actually been good so far whilst everyone around me has picked up numerous bugs.I do try and keep my distance and send them as far away as possible at work when they are ill

There is some thoughts now that Vit D is strongly linked with immunity. Not sure of any studies confirming it. My Vit D was tested a couple of years ago and it was very low (as is a lot of people in this country). I was given a mega dose and now take supplements. Since then I have had fewer colds than I used. I was on 4-5 / year and now I get 1 /2.
Having said that I have had the lurgy now for weeks which I can shift.
Team Sky/British Cycling had the approach of learning to wash hands properly to minimise infections as touching infected surfaces then touching your face is the primary method of infection
