Hiatus hernia repair

I have suffered with acid reflux for most of my life. I was put on ranitidine as a child and about 12 years ago was diagnosed with a hiatus hernia.
I have been on Lansporazole (a proton pump inhibitor) ever since - but they seem to be losing effectiveness and i’m suffereing more and more reflux despite cutting down on both alcohol, caffeine and fizzy drinks.
Recently I came across information about something called Barretts Esophegus which can be a precursor to cancer and which is caused by long term acid damage (none of the GPs have ever mentioned this risk)
I have also become aware of issues with long term use of PPIs too, specifically a higher incidence of Liver disease.
I have booked an appointment with my GP and i’m going to discuss the option of a hernia repair. Has anybody had this procedure?
