Basic first aid question: scraped knee
Discussion
Hi, just a quick basic first aid question...
Just managed to come off my scooter in Vietnam and rather nicely skinned my knee...
Someone at a pharmacy cleaned it with something, then squirted iodine disinfectant on it, then taped it over with some mesh bandage.
They said to change daily, but I’m a little concerned that it will dry into the wound and be impossible to take off?
Should I just take it off and let it air dry occasionally putting the disinfectant on it?
Obviously being in the tropics I don’t particularly fancy adding infection to it!

Some good dressings never adhere to the open wound. Eg Urgotul, Mepitel, Alevyn,
Some have petroleum jelly on them eg Jelonet
Some are an open dry weave and will adhere very strongly and painfully.
From my seat here in my lounge I cannot see what you have, but more than happy to come over and check.
48hrly dressing change is good to check you have no infection. The sooner a SMALL abrasion dries out the better. A BIG wound needs protecting from contamination.

Cheers, it did rather nicely stick... soaked it in warm water and pulled it off.
Being the knee walking is a bit awkward and I’m more concerned with it actually healing because of having to flex it. If you did an “ok sign” with your hand it’s about that size. It does seem to be drying out...
There’s zero chance of me finding those dressings out here. Just realised I caught the sun on the back of my neck too making sleep rather tricky tonight, and I have zero chance of finding proper after sun here either!
