On Sunday it will be 2 weeks since my last caffeinated drink. Since 2 days after that drink I've had a headache most of the time. There was a brief respite after about 5 days, which I presumed at the time was the end of it all. But it has come back.

Doesn't it seem rather a long time to be suffering a caffeine withdrawal headache?

Giving up caffeine was the hardest thing I've done, physically worse than tobacco. I had headaches for at least 2 weeks

What are you drinking instead?

I'd cut right down and started drinking squash, started getting headaches again and realised the squash I'd started buying has aspartame in it.

I drank lots of tea and coffee; the railway runs on the stuff and replaced most of them with squash at home and work....

caffeine withdrawal typically thought to last for 3 - 9 days although the headaches can be experienced for up to 21 days.

did you take sugar when drinking coffee ? low blood sugar can also cause headaches and may be contributory

is your decaf totally caffeine free ? - most aren't and you could be unintentionally, albeit in lower doses, resensitising yourself. the BMJ and DSM cite sporadic/erratic caffeine consumption as a specific trigger for caffeine headaches.

if you use analgesia then be sure to check the contents carefully - caffeinated analgesia is reportedly up to 40% more effective in relieving pain and a small dose is often added as an active ingredient.

In the past when I've cut out caffeine the headache only lasted 3-4 days. This time has been different.

I don't know whether the Lavazza decaf has any caffeine. It wouldn't surprise me.

I have honey in coffee and my intake has not changed much.

I don't use caffeinated analgesics.
