Travel vaccinations and hate needles

I need to have travel vaccinations done for work. I’m not a great fan of needles. Can anyone suggest anything? Happy to pay extra to avoid the pain!

Nobody likes needles ffs.

I say that as someone who over the last year has had more needles in more parts of the body than most. Regularly in both knees (that's real pain!), my arse, weekly blood from my arm, now 6 times a month self injecting with 'pens' which are really just needles in a fancy case.

IIRC polio was a drop in the mouth, malaria is pills and yellow fever was the only jag, but that was a long time ago. And I'd be more worried about the effects of the YF one than the actual jag, it fked me right up.

Places like Nomad actually allow you to book a double length slot if you have trouble with needles when going for travel vaccinations. Not sure what they do differently compared to a normal one though.

Take a little prick or have an agonising death, fairly simple, I think

Check with the practice where they’ll be putting the injection.
Buy some Ametop surface anaesthetic from the chemist. Apply it to the area a good 40 minutes or so before you get the vaccine.
Works very well. You’ll notice some pressure but no pain.

Gave blood last week, like a scaffolding pole shoved into my arm. Still bruised now.

Get on with it, it's a mild 'scratch' at worst.

No one likes needles but it’s really only a very mild discomfort for a very small period of time. The dull ache that sometimes occurs for hours afterwards is far more uncomfortable than the half a second you feel a small scratch from a needle.

Watch a TV documentary about childbirth the night before.

That should put it in perspective for you

The Ametop previously mentioned seems sensible, but you have to wait 30mins, and you need to know where the injections are going, and you can't chose. So I think deployment of it may be the issue.
