Greetings all,
I got discharged yesterday afternoon after 4 days in hospital and am in pretty serious pain still. I’m on antibiotics, paracetamol and codeine has anyone any experience of dealing with diverticulitis ie how long until the pain subsides?

My own Doctors is shut until Monday and having witnessed how busy the hospital was I don’t want to bother them again!

As an aside the hospital were amazing but it was completely packed and the staff were under immense pressure and clearly under resourced. I have the utmost respect for anyone who work in the NHS.

Thanks in advance!

I have it and have had 3 attacks in about 8 years the worst one a day or two after the camera had been probing all the way up into what felt was my stomach.
Colofac sorts it out for me and I have a batch on standy by in case of an attack
Avoid nuts and make sure you chomp your food well
Should remain symptom free if you're lucky

Much sympathy with the OP, it's bloody awful and extremely painful!

I started with it in 2012 and have had 4 or 5 bad attacks since then. The excruciating pain subsides after about 2 days and I know it's sorted when I have a bowel movement which feels like my spine falling out!

Colofac has limited effect for me, massive doses of antibiotics worked last time.

I now know that (for me) it is triggered by several things; porridge, sausages and beetroot are the worst, nuts need to be well-chewed and seeds are a big no-no.

Surprisingly, I can usually kill-off an imminent attack with a simple 'cure' and have done this numerous times now. When I first get the dull pain in my descending colon, I have a fairly hot curry takeaway (Madras or Pathia) and this stops it in its tracks within 12 hours or less. Don't ask me why, but in my case it definitely works! The times that it hasn't worked as expected are when I have not had a curry quickly enough, and then it just tends to bloat me and make it worse.

Bloody awful condition, and one which I am told will be with me for the rest of my days, and with some potentially horrible after-effects or developments of the disease. I'll leave readers to google that side of it... frown

Littlered thanks I can confirm it’s bloody sore. I feel awful although I just boked which relieved things somewhat.

Not pleasant at all!

Mine was triggered by alcohol. I stopped drinking over three years ago.

I miss beer.
