Hi Folks

A friend of mine had a quint in his left eye at birth which was corrected by having an operation.

He is now thinking of learning to drive. Would he need any additional devices in his car to help his eye focus better etc, after, hopefully, he has passed his test?

Thanks

Legally you can drive a car with one functioning eye so a squint is no impairment to getting a licence.
Although as you have no stereopsis (3D vision) depth perception and judgement of speed is slightly altered although the brain is a very clever thing and learns to compensate. Things like revesring and judging gaps may take a little more time to learn, but no special adaptations needed

I was born with a severe squint which required surgery to fix. Aside from being blind as a bat without contact lenses (which is unrelated) I would never of known. As an old fart this surgery was performed decades ago, so I'm sure your friend benefitted from better experience. He'll be fine with no problems.
