For those that drink tea and coffee.
Which plant based milks do you use to replicate a cuppa made with cow milk?

I don't have milk in my tea or coffee as I can't process milk. I've not found anything that's decent enough to replace milk. Not helpful but that's just how it is with milk. You might create something new but it isn't going to taste the same as excretions from a lactating cow's udder in flavoured hot water. wink

the thin reediness is a tad annoying. Most (all) plant milks I've come across are so thin. A friend suggested to mix them all. I was considering adding coconut oil.

Yeah, that's a great description - thin.

But also the taste is an issue. If you put coconut milk in coffee, you're basically having coconut coffee - you can taste the coconut.

Maybe this should be in the "stupid thing the Mrs does" thread, but my wife uses home made "oatmilk" as a dairy substitute ... then she adds double cream to make it taste better.

I just drink black coffee and green tea! Sorry that doesn’t answer your question though.

Anyone got any decent recipes whilst on the subject?

Everything is a compromise. IMO almond, hazelnut and coconut are the best but it will taste of them. Soya is the most neutral.

I've given up diary and drink black tea and mint tea. Doesn't take long to get used to it and now can't stand the taste of milk in hot drinks.

I rarely drink tea, my main go-to is a black coffee. I used to have my coffee white, but for around a year now I've managed to cut the milk out. Only very rarely will I have a milky coffee, such as a Latte. Try it, it does take some getting used to, but it's not that bad and I don't miss the milk..

Plus, it's meant to be "better for you" rolleyes

hehe
I actually like oat milk, it's one of my faves, it just needs thickening up.

I use Oatly cream in coffee.

Very rarely have a coffee at home though and usually have the cream left over from cooking.

Not keen on eating soy.
Oatly cream! Never knew it existed, time for experimentation

I was on Almond Milk for a few Weeks - IBS elimination
Unsweetened Roasted from Aldi (99p) and one of the main Brands was nice.

Liked it in Coffee but has a luminous quality and adds a nutty flavour unsurprisingly.
Very nice in Overnight Porridge Oats.

Sweetened was too sweet for me.
Unroasted tasted of raw Almonds which is one of the few flavours I am not keen on.

Almond milk is the nicest in coffee I've tried. Particularly with a proper roast.
There are cream equivalents to most non-dairy 'milks', have a bash with those?

Not sure what supermarkets sell it, but I get it in Tesco, usually in the fridge with the free from "cheese" and "yogurt"

Just tried Alpro Coffee and Caramel soya milk today. Tasted very good so might be worth a try for adding to coffee.
