There’s loads of pills they dish out to others, pain relief, low bp, high bp,
Statins and the list goes on.
As anyone ever said sod it. I’m going to move
More and have more of a mediterrean diet etc etc and Not needed them anymore ??

I have arthritis and was on iirc 6 different pills at one point, 50 a week. They swapped the main one for an injection pen (not that it's helped any) and I stopped taking the others too.

I'm still supposed to take anti-inflammatories but they don't do anything so I don't. I've been markedly better the last couple of months which I can only put down to the sun, which has confirmed in my head that I need to be in Spain sooner than later.

I was 38 when diagnosed, and basically couldn't face chomping down pill after pill for the rest of my life. Especially when they didn't seem to make any difference anyway. fk pills. smile

There are some pills that doctors advise you never stop once you've started. Blood pressure tablets and blood thinners seem to be a one way street. I guess if you come off them there are some serious risks that you were probably trying to avoid when you started them in the first place...

I've a rare skin disease, only treatment is long term treatment by autoimmune suppressant tablets, the same used for chemo. Blood tests etc as well.

So far put them off but tricky but have rest of life to take them, not a fan of tablets but they are money spinners for drugs companies it seems. The hospital does use scare tatics but the side effects are pretty st.

I'm 38 so maybe 20 years of this st.

So moving to Italy etc will cure my arthritis? Are you on crack or something? Does that help?

Trust me you wouldn't last 20 years on chemo. Better start looking for alternatives... .

Unfortunately there isn't one. I don''t have to take the cocktail of pills as poor cancer suffers do but still seem to get full house of side effects, been on and off 4 years, so far 4 different ones.

You have my sympathy. Hopefully sooner rather than later you'll find medication that doesn't give too many sides.

There's a lot of people who say warm weather improves it. Don't think crack comes into it.

It's worth a try for me. And even if it doesn't at least I'll get a tan.

Heart attack at 46 and have been on 4 pills a day ever since. I'm now 55.

I'm fit, not overweight and kept thinking that it must be some sort of mistake.

But had an Angina attack last week that scared the brown stuff out of me.

Not good to know that the pills help but are not curing me.

It's so badly written, I'm left wondering what he's suggesting at all.

I have it too, in my spine. I've had dull pain for many years at the base, but it just got worse and worse. Weather doesn't do anything for joints, it's a myth.
It got to a point where I couldn't stand or walk for long and I was having to sit down periodically to alleviate the pain in my back, I'm self employed and need to be able to stand, move around, lift etc so work (and money) was taking a hit as well as my health as I didn't want to walk for long.
Aside from diagnosing it the NHS didn't offer anything. In fact what actually happened was I went to book an appointment to see the GP to get the scan results, I asked the receptionist out of curiosity if she could could tell me. She had a look, turned round and said :
'Oh yeah, you've got arthritis in your spine'.
'Anything else?'
'NEXT!'
Like i'd split a toenail or something.
I was just left thinking fk, i'm in my 40s with arthritis in my spine, can't stand or walk for long periods of time, so how long until i'm in a wheelchair or whatever? Should I start hitting the bucket list and spend all my savings as later life is likely to be pretty stty? And in some ways I did because It threatened to affect me mentally as i'm not the most positive person in the world anyhow. So after ruminating for months (and dealing with other issues) I saw the Doc, hit him with my fears and questions. The upshot was:

That I could be in a bad way in 5, 10 or 20 yrs, I still maybe ok when i'm 80+.
The fact i'd stopped moving as much was making it worse. When you use it the supporting muscles etc help support you (and stuff like that, technical I know).
Pain killers were prescribed and a phone number for a Physio (haven't used it yet).

So now i'm fully active again. Pain is at a minimum, just something dull in the background and i'm having to take a tablet to stop the pain killers attacking my stomach, I also take Osteocare for my bones - everyone should over 40. So that's me from now on for the rest of my life, but it works. Because i'm moving i'm improving!

Weather helps indirectly. The sun effects us in many positive ways (mentally and physically) and we are of course more active when it shines which works wonders.

I feel lucky. 51 and I don't take anything, other than a couple of Nurofen every two months for a migraine.

Complex topic. Modern medicine is wonderful, and there’s no doubt that many people live prolonged lives with the help of drugs. But sadly, the trend appears to be about masking symptoms rather than treating the root causes of ailments. Most of which are caused by diet and lifestyle rather than age alone.

If you really want to understand pill culture, just follow the money. Statins being the most obvious example. It’s not in anyone’s interest to actually make you better. It’s in their interests to keep treating you. I realise some people will jump on this post as conspiracy theory nonsense, but oh well smile

Lots of anecdotal 'evidence' of people suffering chronic conditions such as type 2 diabetes, hypertension, arthritis, etc. being 'cured' with a change of diet - essentially omitting processed/refined foods.
Clearly, it's likely that many have tried the same 'treatment' with no change to their condition, but they're less likely to report.

I read that a lot of auto immune deaseses are more prevalent in the 1st world over third world countries are due to parasites in the food. We have removed these and now we have more auto immune diseases. There are parasite treatments available just not on the NHS..

Hmm. I didn't know that.

I would go all out lifestyle wise for a few months before going down that road then, but then again I suppose most people are proposed them when it's too late.

Sounds terrible mate frown

Now I have no idea but I see medical cannabis is being made legal for certain cases.

Wonder if one of your Dr's would try this considering what you are on just now?

Sorry if this is a complete waste of time.

I can get away with steroid creams and moisturizer in the summer at a push. unfortunately I was pushed to edge, and trying to work 50-60 hours a week whilst doing the treatment i couldn't do it anymore. Biotics are an option, cannabis would help with the stress and pain i think. pityriasis rubra pilaris is what its called luckily not too bad on the face.

So the stress at work would not be helping the skin issues. Has this heat helped or made things worse?

Perhaps it would be worth asking your Dr about cannabis oil.

Very sorry to hear your having these issues. Must be hell at times.
