I have a small red blemish on my face that has been there for at least 8 years - GP said it was “an acne spot” it’s clearly not a spot haha.

I’d like to have it treated / removed (hopefully without cutting it out due to its location). Ive contacted a dermatologist but their cost just to see me is £200 - followed by the cost of treatment - is this normal? I have private health insurance - would something like this typically be covered and would I need to be referred by my GP?

I once had one laser treatment but it was £80 and they literally flashed the lazer on it once and not a thing happened, so a little wary of things not working at that cost.

Any recommendation for dermatologists In and around Leeds / Manchester area would be great.

It's definitely worth looking at your private medical insurance.

A colleague of mine had a large, benign lump appear on her face (chin) and she had it removed via our employees' private medical insurance. It was a while ago however from memory, she was referred by her GP.

Give your private medical insurance provider a call to check whether they will cover it - if they will, they'll give you a pre-authorisation code

Some Consultant Dermatologists will require a GP referral, some will just see you based on self referral

Search online for dermatologists near you - they will have online profiles listing their qualifications, credentials and specialisms. Any Consultant Dermatologist will have the necessary knowledge to consult on a straight forward skin condition
