What could have caused gum inflammation

How’s do dentists

I woke up a couple of mornings ago in absolute agony.
I’m late forties, had two fillings when I was a kid,
No pain no Heath issues at all, go twice a year for a polish and twice a check up
Nothing wrong ever in 30 years

The top left of my mouth past the molars past the wisdom tooth that’s barely broke the skin,
After that the gum line to the hinge is a small area but agony

I went to the dentist he took an X-ray nothing there at all,
No sores or cuts, didn’t get charge just said it was inflammation,
And keep taking ibuprofen,
I’ve never had toothache before ever, so not even sure if that’s it,
The bit where the gum is there is nothing there I saw the X-ray, dentist didn’t even charge me.
No pain elsewhere so I don’t think it’s neuralgia

I am not a dentist, but that sounds like an infection around a partially erupted wisdom tooth. Probably due to a small piece of food getting trapped below the gum line.

As above, could be as simple as a piece of food up in the gum.

I avoid Popcorn, or at least eat it very carefully, as I find the popcorn husks seem to be prefectly designed to get up between my teeth and gums. If I don't notice it can cause pain within a few hours due to the inflammatory reaction.

It's an age thing as the gums start to recede. Welcome to growing old. It'll be your eyes next!

I would go with this ^^^^^^

I had a partial erupted wisdom and as said tiny amounts of food would get trapped inside the tiny whole, dentist suggested Corsodyl mouthwash which worked well for me, thankfully after a couple of years the tooth erupted enough to eliminate the space where food could get trapped.
