As the OP states really, coughing and spluttering all night for about the last week, and not a lot is touching it.

Coughing to the verge of throwing up is not how id like to spend my time.

So whats best to cure it?

Thanks in advance

I've found sipping lemonade helps to stop the cough so it'll give you some relief

Last time I had a similar cough I reached for the Piriton. It seemed to knock me out, which stopped the coughing.

If the cough is high in your throat and "scratchy". Honey, slice of lemon, cloves stuffed in the lemon slice, hot water. Sip and gargle a bit.

I tend to get one if I eat spicy food.

Drinking something very cheap/very fizzy (Asda lemonade) usually cures it. As does very strong coffee

I think I've had the same cough. No cough medicines worked. After a week I was exhausted from coughing mainly at night but the cough disappeared quite quickly.

Pholcodine works nicely for me. Also dextromethorphan (Robitussin) is effective. Both pharmacy only.

Indeed, and a sedating cough mixture like Actifed Compound Linctus is also useful if kept awake

Not sure either of you have had the same cough as me. Impressively tickly and the second worst I've ever had. One third of a bottle of pholcodine one night, which did nothing but make me cough more and feel ill the next day. Two days later took some Night Nurse, a large enough dose by any standards, and it knocked me out for four hours, Then I woke and coughed for the rest of the night.

Try tucking a clove up between your gum and inner cheek. Leave it there all night. The oil from the clove will gradually seep down your throat and sooth it. Works for me. An Indian friend told me about it. Worth a try.

Pineapple is good, the bacteria in the throat don't like it.

I try and avoid any sugary substances.
