Am I doing enough?

After quite a few months of bumbling around trying a few different things, I've come back to a low rep routine; an adaptation of 5x5 I guess.

Perhaps due to my age (44) and build/weight (ecto/70kg) I find this suits me best but sometimes I wonder whether I'm doing enough. Today, for example, I only managed deads and T bar rows, both 5x5, albeit after some warm up weights and apart from a few rounds on the punchbag I was done in.

It felt hard, but seeing my output on paper afterwards looked a bit pathetic. So, am I doing enough do you think or is that a stupid question?

What are your goals?

Are you progressing towards them?

Ah yes, fair point and largely the reason for my stupid question comment.

In truth, I'm not that unhappy with where I am. I'd like a bit more muscle and a tad less fat but wouldn't everybody?! No, with 2 young kids, sleep depravation and a full time job, if I can get into the gym a few times a week and move slowly in the right direction then I'm ok with that.

I guess my question was more general; when working around 90-95% of 1rm, is my volume too low to have any discernible affect?

5x5 deadlifts and T bar rows is enough for anyone.

If it feels as though it isn't it means you didn't challenge yourself appropriately.
