I doubt it would cause any damage so long as you're well supported by pillows etc. I suspect a lot of folk do so for various health reasons.

Whilst they were getting to the diagnosis of my respiratory condition I slept sitting up for several months as I seemed to cough less in that position. I say slept, it was pretty broken sleep but still better than lying down.

There was a time (a long time ago) when it was normal for people to sleep sitting up, it was the norm in Northern mainland Europe at least.
Just out of interest, sorry it's of no use to you whatsoever bowtie

Hey,
I had something similar a while ago, i had someone jab a finger in my eye and leave me with a hyphema.
Advised to sleep sitting up at a 40 degree angle or some such. Awful, always slept flat and sideways.

Long term i wouldn't really think it would be bad, your heart works far harder during the day when you are stood up and active, 6,7 hours slightly upright in bed i doubt would be bad for you, especially when you are getting the benefits of a good kip.

If you are seemingly getting a good nights sleep, i would keep at it until i saw the dr again and mention to him.

I can't see a problem.

I suffer with insomnia. I sometimes find it easier to sleep if I watch TV on one of our reclining sofas rather than lie in bed. The slightly inclined position seems more relaxed than flat.
