Face rash - allergy, infection or other?

This is a recurring problem that last appeared 4 years ago, although this time it’s worse.
It starts as a small patch under my righ eye but has quickly spread - imagine the shape of those sleeping eye masks and that’s the area it covers. The skin is red, quite itchy/sore, dry but not painful. It’s also quite swollen under my eyes but not affecting my sight. I have been using moisturiser (E45) and the GP has prescribed antibiotics as he suspects a skin infection. I have been referred to the hospital for follow up.
The skin did almost fully recover after a couple of days on antibiotics but now on day 6 and it’s returned and is the worst it’s been.
I will return to my GP but wondered if the symptoms are familiar to anyone and whether this could be an allergy? I had my bloods taken yesterday but results will take a week.

Sounds very similar to something I have experianced in the past ( I could post a scary photo but it's lunchtime) 
First time I was told...allergic reaction and had I changed anything...soap/washing powder/shampoo etc, nothing had been changed and Antihistamines cleared it up, it kept recurring I was then told it was eczema and given Corticosteroid creams.
Turns out by home deduction I'm actually allergic to cat dander, since the 2 that lived here have been gone the problem has never returned.
