Which is worse, high systolic or high diastolic? I appreciate they are both bad.

Bottom number. Dia.

What’s you numbers? I’m on meds to try and get mine under control. Stopping drinking helped

If consistently in that range then your a candidate for blood pressure tablets.

I am usually around 130 / 80 and I am on Ramipril and beta blockers; however my blood pressure is temperamental due to a heart issue. I few weeks ago I was 175 / 110; it doesn't take a lot to affect it, alcohol, exercise, blocked arteries.

That’s a little high but not something that isn’t manageable through lifestyle. Any underlying issues?

At its worst (end landed me squarely in hospital) I was 190/158 from memory. Maybe another combo, I’ll check my notes but it was scary.

Massive lifestyle changes and meds was the only way.

The 130/75 is with meds, my GP reckons for my age (mid fifties) it's a tolerable level. No underlying issues except slightly overweight.

Not sure I’d be overly worried mate so long as you keep an eye on it. I’m not even 40 yet!!

thought 140/90 was when they would start to be concerned?

Yeah, seems I reached and breached that which emresulted in a 5 day hospital visit and a lot of telling off from the doc.

It wasn't all that long ago that high blood pressure was defined as 160/90 or /95. I thought it was only if you breach 190/100 that they start talking about hospitals.

I think Dave is getting confused. A hospital wouldn’t admit someone for 5 days with a BP of 140/90 or half the older population would be in.

Your BP seems ok but I guess if that’s the corrected measure, after meds, it’s still on the high side.

Agreed. I'm on meds and I would consider 140/90 to be a good day. I'm closer to 150/100 as an average.

I'm losing weight and going to the Gym 3-4 times a week hoping to do better.

I recently had a full medical, mine was in the 130s / 90ish, They were not concerned. over 140 or high 90s is where they start to get concerned.

Yes, the numbers are off. I’ll check. The visit was a combination of things, should have mentioned that.

Anyway, chin up. I think “normal” is 120/80?

The other thing to watch is when you take it. It can fluctuate a lot in a very short period. There is also the white coat syndrome. If you are worried about it get a machine from Boots or similar & check it yourself several times during the day.

I have hypertension which I took as a wake up call.

Trying to lose weight slowly, diet changes, less booze and more exercise are hopefully bringing it under control.

Yup, whenever a nurse or doctor has taken mine it registers at about 150/100 or something crazy like that.

I have my own machine and take a photo of the reading twice a week and store in a gallery of my phone and at home I am always in the 125-135/70 - 80 range.
