'D' during winter. Needed due to short days lack of sun where we live. Common vitamin deficiency in northern Scotland.

This, only. Office/indoor job
Healthy diet = no vitamin need

Centrum/ Wellman /etc is very very loosely beneficial if you eat well and not an infant, senior, pregnant.

Vit C
Vit D
Zinc
Fish oil
Curcumin
N-Acetyl Cysteine
Apple cider vinegar
Milk thistle

All the above, every day. The aim of which is mainly to reduce inflammation and to boost liver health.

It take vit d. Although I spend a lot of time outside I'm always usually wearing sunscreen which prevents its absorption.

I also take a fish oil as I really dont like eating fish.

Final thing I take is a probiotic. I had a few infections last year and was on a lot of antibiotics. Not sure they do much.

Last year I was training for ironman and there was some thoughts from people that a multivit might be beneficial for people under heavy training so I took one then for a bit.

Might mainline the odd Berroca with a hangover.

All in 1 tablet containing the following..

Calcium,
Magnesium,
Zinc &
Vitamin D

2 tablets afew hours before bedtime, and I seem to drift off to sleep far easier, and wake up feeling I've had a better night's sleep.

They're meant to help with anxiety as well, so seem to help with mental wellbeing.

I was taking Myprotein Alpha men because they work out quite cheap as they're always on sale.

I did have bloods done and Vitamin B was high, checked the packaging and it's a massive dose! Don't think I actually had any ill-effects, but haven't bought any more after that pack ran out.

Gunna give Centrum a go. Seems a more sensible dose of B12!

They are the ones I had, I've actually had a break off them for a few weeks and certainly feel a lot more sleepy without them.

I thought the scientific consensus was that vitamin supplements do absolutely nothing whatsoever apart from give you expensive piss?

Yes and no. If your diet is appalling then supplements would help, although it would be better if you just sorted your diet.

If you are vegan then iron and b vits are harder to come by so you might need those as a boost. Especially for women and athletes.

Vit D is only really got from sunshine, tiny amounts in some food. In the UK only between April and September is the sun strong enough. If you are sensible then any significant time spent in the sun is wearing suncream, which blocks absorption. So Vit d is an good idea.

Fish oil is a good substitute if like me you cant stand fish.

But yes if you have a balanced diet with plenty of fruit and veg then you wont gain much from a multi vit. But vit d sups are for all, generally.

Although I'm always told I'm wasting my money, and they could well be right...

- Multivitamin: An attempt to plug in any nutritional "gaps" in the diet
- Cod liver oil: For joint and brain health, and possible anti-depressant qualities
- Milk Thistle: For liver health - I like a drink - my dad who also likes a drink swears by it and says its given him normal liver function

My mates reckon I should try taking Vitamin D especially in winter. I am susceptible to bouts of feeling very low so there might be something in it, although I am trying to rectify this in other ways.

After getting put on steroids quite a while back to suppress my overactive immune system and getting lots of colds etc. due to having young kids I decided to start taking a multivitamin. Just whatever is cheapest though from Savers, Aldi or Lidl. I've no idea if it's placebo but I've really only had one bad cold since. I sometimes feel a little bit like I'm coming down with something but can usually fight it off before it takes hold. I sometimes take a 1000mg effervescent Vitamin C tablet at that point too which again may be helping or not.

It also coincided with me taking up running and I sure that getting some proper exercise 3 times a week has helped me too as well a the weight loss etc. I've no idea what is actually working now so I just stick with it all biggrin
