Infected ?

3 weeks ago I got a splinter in my finger - it was a shard of old painted timber.
Unsuccessfully tried to dig it out with a blade and pin so put a bit of savlon and a plaster on it.
Few days later I managed to squeeze the offender out, but my finger is now like this




Only painful locally, and hard to the touch but can’t quite bend the finger.
Don’t see the point in a GP visit though.

Likely to go away of it’s own accord?

Yeah, looks like it's infected.

I woudnae bother your GP with such piffling symptoms, they are way too busy planning how to further reduce
their hours and workload, retire at 35, while fleecing more money out of the NHS.

Go to your GP. I did the same last year. Thought nowt of it until four weeks later "the swollen bit" started really swelling and my wedding ring started to cut into my finger!!!!!!

Dose of GP Pox brought the swelling down (so I could with force, grease, and paiiiiin get the ring off), but still now stuck with damaged skin which means I can't get my ring back on!

Bringing this up to date...
G.P. gave me a course of antibiotics but they didn’t work (gave me the sts though)
Went back to see him today - said he couldn’t do any more for me so sent me to A& E - I thought this a total waste of resources, considering we’re constantly told that A&E is for emergencies only...

Anyway, 3 anaesthetic injections and the use of a scalpel later, out popped a splinter...

That is a terrible use of antibiotics by the gp

No wonder resistance is spreading and becoming such a problem

It was obvious from the first photos the splinter was still there
