My mom has had sciatica for almost 7 weeks now. She’s in agony especially in the mornings.

She started physio 3 weeks ago but she’s swearing to me it’s worse for days after so she’s against going again.

She’s been told today acupuncture can help? Has anyone got any good advice to help her please?

Doctor has given her Tramadol (which barely raises pain) and has said if it’s no better in 2 weeks he’ll send her for an MRI.

A chiropractor might be able to help. Have a look on YouTube to give her an idea of what happens.

I had this for 3 weeks in may.

unbelievable pain, stay active is what I kept getting told, didn’t work for me

I did have electo acupuncture which was ok.

Sorry to say but only thing that worked for me was time.

Three rounds of steroid injections, endless physio, more pain killers than God, seed medicated red wine and then two discectomies.

Only the operations solved it. 6 years of hassle with 3 years of absolute hell.

Good luck to your Mum. I hope that it clears.

I had it once for around 3 weeks, this was about 10 years ago.
Lifting a water barrel and twisting.
The pain was absolutely unbearable.
I was walking like a 100 year old.
I found back massage the best
Then warm walk-in showers.
I had pain relieving drips.
I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

It just shows how badly our bodies are designed when you look how our back muscles are routed.

Yeah I feel really sorry for her, just want to help.

I’m concerned about the Tramadol slightly. 8 tables a day she can take, will addiction become a problem on them if she uses them for a couple of weeks?

I suffer from this occasionally.
Acupuncture was very painful and made it worse.
Physio was no better but less painful.
Chiropractor was great. She advised that adding warmth to to lower back will relive the pain temporarily she convinced me to use cold ( freezing)compress pads. I think the theory is that coldness reduces the swelling therefore allowing the nerve/ disc room to heal.
This worked great for me.
It’s annoying and very painful so best wishes
Paul.
