Evening all!

I’ve been feeling knackered for a while, really lethargic, dizzy at times, frequent headaches.

Anyway, after several blood tests over the last year, I had a call from my doctor, telling me I was deficient in folic acid and that I had to take a supplement daily for 16 weeks.

What I don’t understand, and what she couldn’t really put her finger on, was why.

I eat well, including regular sources of natural folate, so the issue would seem to be one of absorption.

I know that drinking can reduce absorption, but apparently you need to drink really heavily for years for that to happen.

It’s good to know that I’ve not been imagining things, but I can’t help think that there is more to this.

Anyone else have experience/knowledge of this?

I also have this, been taking supplements for a while now but like yourself my dr couldn’t put finger on exactly why .
Very common in pregnant women I was told ( highly unhelpful to me being male)

I take it because I take something else (methotrexate) which fks you up and apparently folic acid is the answer, the two go hand in hand. I get the whole fatigue thing, constant tiredness but it doesn't fix that. Not for me anyway.

I was experiencing peripheral neuropathy, pins and needles in hands and feet . Got quite extreme. Tests revealed near zero level of Folic acid. Like you no reason as to why. 10mg tablet of Folic acid daily has certainly improved things but took quite a while.
