I've been at the same Dental Practise for 5 yrs, they have given me 5 different Dentists in that time

I've mentioned to every one that I haven't been happy with a gap between my molars as food gets stuck in there and a previous dentist filled it which solved the problem but all have dismissed it

I've seen a new (young) dentist at today and he has looked a little harder and tells me that there is decay in the tooth and recession in the bone holding it - caused from years of food being stuck and flossed out !

He also tells me that it has gone beyond his scope and that I need to see a Specialist for further advice but that it will probably need an implant costing £2k

I've had root canals and crowns in the past but it seems that no one wants to do these on the NHS anymore and they cost £1k

I think I need a second opinion - where / what should I be looking for ?

I'm loathe to go to their preferred clinic.

Sounds similar to my current treatment. Years of infection missed by my old dentist, continual infections coming back after antibiotics. I have now had five teeth removed this year (thankfully had the last out yesterday) and I've lost so much bone in places I may not be able to have implants in some gaps.

The worst is over now. I'm taking vitamin D supplements in the hope I can encourage some bone growth. My new dentist is one of the best in the country with a price to match but I don't mind. I feel better now all the infections have been cleared up and even my problem catarrh has gone. I sleep better too.
