Are there any Opticians here who can help regarding Prism?

I am waiting 10 months for Strabismus surgery to correct double vision.
In the mean time I have a fresnel prism on one of my lenses to a power of 16 base out.
As I will have this for 10 months and have already been wearing one for the last month, I would like it to get built into my glasses so that its less noticeable.
I seem to be struggling to find an optician who will built the prism into my glasses though.
Is there any opticians out there who are able to do this?

It's not too hard to order a pair of single vision with 8 out in each eye. It can be dependent on your prescription and the size of frame you chose and they won't look great as 8 out will make the outer edges really quite thick. You can't thin prims like you can high prescriptions.
Varifocals you'll struggle with as most of the major brands stop at 4.5 or sometimes 6 prism horizontally for each eye. I dare say Norville could organise something if you don't mind waiting
I imagine its really a case of won't not can't. Find yourself a decent independent practice and you'll be fine.

One for DKL - are 'in' prisms easier than out? Only asking as I had very strong prisms for years and it got to the stage where the optician referred me for surgery as they couldn't/wouldn't fit the prisms I needed.
Mangos - I was offered botox before strabismus. It was a disaster, gave me a permanent double vision (corrected by a stick on fresnel) until the botox wore off. It did seem to 'reset' my eyes though in that I have been prism free for the last 10 months. My eye is starting to wander again so suspect I need to have a small prism fitted.

Off the top of my head certainly done 6 base out each eye from Norville and don't think there was a huge wait and cosmetically ok (done for a retired optometrist who was happy with results). Often with large amounts of base out prism a seperate pair of reading glasses with less prism can make more prolonged close work. Base in is no more difficult , but all of this is dependent on other factors so there are no hard and fast rules. Surgery is only going to be relevant or effective in certain cases.Gassing Station | Health Matters | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
