it's driving me nuts - my weight won't change!

the first 3 weeks I dropped about 10lbs, I'm trying to get lean and I'm skinny fat

now every morning for the last 2 week i've been the exact same weight, I've tried eating even less and working out for even longer - been going to bed absolutely starving but yet when I wake up it's 143.5lbs on the scale every single day!

it's very very annoying.

not sure what to do!

I've only just resumed doing weight training this week, that's the mix that it will be from now on - previously I was just doing 6 days of cardio (some days fairly light) and eating about 1200 cals

Could be down to a couple of things...

How are you tracking your calorie intake, and are you making your own meals? Sometimes you can miss out things like the oil you cook food in, or not tracking drinks, or forgetting to track snacks or the weekend pints/wine.

Do you have a lot of salt in your diet? You could be retaining water if so, but probably not to the extent of the scales not moving.

You could be losing fat but gaining muscle, meaning your scale figure stays the same, but your body fat changes. Get some body fat scales, or measure your waist, thighs, hips etc to see if this is the case

Could your scales be broken?

If you are truly on 1200 cal a day which is very low for a man, AND exercising, you should be seeing pretty strong results.

not making my own meals most of the time so getting my calorie information from packaging - vegtables, wholemeal wraps, protein shakes etc

I only drink water, no alcohol and a couple of zero calorie cokes.

it's possible I could be gaining a bit of muscle through swimming, but at these kind of calories is that even possible? :O

the scales are digital ones so i'd be surprised but it's worth investigating this evening :>

145 lbs doesn't sound heavy at all, how tall are you?

You say you are skinny fat, this usually means there is hardly any muscle under your fat so your body is effectively out of shape. You may be better off lifting weights, eating a slight caloric surplus and increaseing protein intake and you will eventually "fill out" and have some shape to your body.

1200 cals is nothing!! Eat more.

What are your stats? Height and current weight. I'm 5'7 and weigh 11st 8lbs, no problems losing weight at 2000 cals.

Eating too little can be detramental.

The body and weight loss is a funny thing.

When I used to bulk / cut, I could have easily spent 2 weeks exactly the same and then suddenly drop 2 kilos!

It also likes to maintain the status quo, so it's definitely possible you are still losing weight. What does the mirror say?

I'm 5'11 and have some muscle and tone but absolutely all of my fat has gone to my stomach and I have love handles too. it's quite annoying as I just want more visible abs then to take it from there and fill out

I think increasing protein intake is a good call, I had been avoiding meats because I had gout but it seems to be under control now

I've read so many people and articles saying this simply doesn't exist and is a myth, seems to be very controversial

Have you been doing any exercise or just dieting?

What macro split are you using and could you post up your diet and we can see if we can help from there?

Well personally I've found the same as you. You lose a bit to start with then it slows right down.

It fits with what this guy is saying:

https://medium.com/@davidludwigmd/why-calorie-rest...

I've personally found that reducing carbs worked better than simply counting calories. Less hungry too. I only do the easy wins though, like say for a curry I'll have cauliflower rice in place of normal rice. I don't go to the extent of not having anything with sugar/carbs, that's just too time consuming/limiting.

Have you investigated any of the 'low carb' lifestyles: Examples?
They're not just a fad as many would have you believe, though I don't claim they're the panacea some may advocate.
I will say I'm convinced processed industrial/processed foods and oils are detrimental to health and cause weight gain.

dieting, swimming 3 times a week 30-45 minutes, running 1 day a week, a nightly walk of 30 minutes and this week I've started lifting (done quite a bit in the past but had to take a break due to injury) and will be doing it 3 times a week.

I want to lose visceral (sp?) fat - the kind that sits around the waist. I looked around and have started taking Inulin on my cereal/muesli and in tea. No.2's increase - apparently part of the clean up process starting with cleaning fat around the liver and prebiotic for intestines.
I'm diabetic too and its having a surprising effect on blood glucose.
I'll give it a month and see how it fares.

Cut the carbs to less than 50g per day, eat loads of protein and healthy fats, train 4 times per week with weights.

That gut will disappear

Firstly, stop weighing yourself daily, there's no point. Set a day/time to weigh yourself (morning is best, when you wake up) and stick to that.

Ditch the packaged processed foods and protein shakes, go to a clean diet and count your calories and you will lose weight. You are wanting to be getting about 1700 cals a day if you are looking to lose weight. Break it up into 5-6 meals and reduce carbs to a minimum.

If you are in a calorie deficit you will lose weight.

I've been weighing myself at the exact same time in the morning before work, so there is consistency

are protein shakes not clean enough? I thought they were supposed to be useful for dieting
