Cod liver oil causing broken nails?

Last winter I started taking cod liver oil capsules with vitamin A and D. Mainly because I do not eat much fish and thought I should take vitamin D in the winter. I noticed I was regularly breaking nails.

Over the summer I stopped taking the supplements and didn't get any broken nails. However I have recently started taking them again and broke a nail this morning. Does cod liver oil/vitamin A/vitamin D weaken nails?

Is the lid on the container very tight?

Fingernails take 6 months to grow and toenails a year to year so if it's the ends of the nails that are breaking then the cod liver oil probably prevented it.

A good point, but no, nails not required to open it.
