Scalp Eczema/psoriasis
Discussion
For the past 3 months or so I’ve been suffering from quite bad flaking of skin at the front of my scalp just above my forehead. It’s certainly not normal dandruff, the itch can be quite intense and large pieces of skin are coming off with holes in them (where the hair grows through). Starting to lose some hair in the region also. I’m thinking it could be some form of eczema or psoriasis?
I’ve been trying a shampoo called Capasal once a week which isn’t really working.
Would it be worth seeing a dermatologist privately?

I'd see a dermatologist. I should do it as well but I haven't yet.
For over the counter - you could try Nizoral shampoo, which I find really works. I use it regularly.
I'd also recommend a normal anti dandruff shampoo, head and shoulders or what ever.
If you can keep the area moisturised it will help too, I try not to let my hair air dry any more as that seems to make my skin dry out.

Try nizoral. I had it really bad a few years ago where a slight scratch would see blood and then scabs. Seemed to settle it down.
Also use baby shampoo (fragrance free if you like) its as mild as you will get without silly Tgel prices. Strong shampoos like treseme is a no go for me.
It's that time of year again for a flare up.
I get it between my eyebrows to which isn't pretty.

I also had a problem with the inside of my ear being very flakey (for years) and the Betacap completely cured that (and that hasn't come back).
Good luck. That itching (and subsequent scratching/bleeding) can be a b

Any side effects from it? It is a steroid isn’t it? So when you stopped using it on your scalp, the flaking came back? Cheers

That is quite similar to me.

h!I need to go to a dermatologist really as there are a few things with similar symptoms and similar treatments, something a bit more robust than an OTC remedy would be good though.
It sounds like you have the adult version of Cradle Cap which is similar to Psoriasis.
I had Cradle Cap in my teens. Be careful picking at it because it will take the roots of your hair with it and it won't grow back. I speak from experience.
You'll need a steroid based product to get rid of it properly.
Many years later I still have a few small patches of Psoriasis which I treat with Dovobet.

Somehow managed to get a GP appointment today and have been prescribed Betacap. If no improvement then will be referred to the derm. In all honesty I don’t fancy using steroids and the such but the itching and flaking can be really bad at times so needs must.
Also read that psoriasis and cradle cap can be due to a poor diet. My diets always been crap though so no idea why it’s decided to come on recently!

Hmm it would have to be quite deep scale though as I’m sure the hair follicles are under the scalp? I had Cradle Cap in my teens. Be careful picking at it because it will take the roots of your hair with it and it won't grow back. I speak from experience.

Before you pay to see any private specialist or fork out for any OTC remedy, get yourself to the GP and ask him if he thinks it could be Rosacea.....which is what I have having suffered very similar symptoms to you.
Rosacea can only be treated with antibiotics and even then, this only suppresses it, though quite well. You'll need a prescribed cream to apply to keep it in check.
ETA - didn't read that you've been to the GP. Don't be afraid to ask again though if it doesn't clear up.

I get this as well
Flares up badly usually a few days after a hair cut and then sometime again when the amount of growth makes my hair quite thick and bushy.
Nizoral has worked for me in the past. Head and Shoulders / T-Gel absolutely do not work, especially H&S.
I've had it for as long as I can remember. I get dry skin all round the backs of my ears, my eyelids are currently very sore (not flakey tho) and I get it around my eye-brows as well. After shaving, and the stubble begins to come back, my tash-area will become flakey as the hairs basically push the skin off. That's the worst as you kinda have to go find a sink with some face soap and have a bit of scrub to shift the dead skin.
It comes and goes though and my diet is pretty good (lots of fresh stuff, lots of fresh veg and things. But also a lot of biscuits). I've been a swimmer all my life and spent countless hours in pools. I do wonder if that has caused it (when I was younger I never used to moisturise coming out of the pool) or at least made it worse. I don't tend to get red-looking skin, its just always dry.
