KETO diet. Anyone doing really well on it?
Discussion
My wife has finished her first week and feels terrible. Light headed. Isn't sleeping and churning stomach every day.
Having read up on this it seems crazy to me that you'd massively deprive your body of so many things it needs that you give it a "burn and use my fat or die" ultimatum.
Your body chooses glucose as it's preferred fuel unless we starve it of carbs and sugar. Then it reluctantly burns fat hence weight loss.
Anyone here a fan? I couldn't forever give up rice, potato, bread, cereals and low fat options and eat endless red meat.

It's a great diet if done correctly, bodies used to burn fat hence why our bodies store it. We have reprogrammed them to run on sugar/carbs. Have you wife up her salt intake because there is alot of salt hidden in carbs so she could be lacking there. Also more water and patience, you are training your body to tap into its reserves
No its not the best diet the best diet is a balanced diet including as much as possible but well moderated. Unfortunately most people can't do that.
Also just to ask, what nutrients do carbs have that she's missing? Whenever I do Keto for a bit I eat loads of green veg so I'd reccomend that.

Reached the end of my first week on it (to support the missus) and I’ll be honest, it’s horrible - I’m lethargic, bad stomach, dreading meals etc. I’m told it gets better after 2 weeks, so sticking with it another week.
I lost 5.8lb in the first week, but bf% went up slightly. Not sure why, we have bought some ketostix to give an indication of whether we are on the right track.
Two tips - MCT oil in our morning black coffee helps kick start the day. Been taking that for 2 days.
The other is, I’ve just discovered Aldi’s edamame bean pasta - tastes like the real thing so I’m not craving carbs as much now.

I was keto/paleo/IF for over five years, far prefer it. Currently strict carnivore 'cos I'm the curious type...
It shouldn't be "endless red meat" - loads of green stuff too, slathered in butter.
The transition period can be a rough couple of weeks. Your gut bacteria run out of fibre to eat so they die out and other bacteria take time to flourish, your body stops retaining water alongside all the glucose so you get diarhoea and you lose electrolytes, even though your blood has ketones you aren't burning them well so you feel physically tired *and* your brain is racing. It all passes in a few weeks and I found I far prefer it. I did think I would miss things like lasagna, but on the rare times I've "treated" myself to old favourites I've felt so ill afterwards I've sworn off them.
There's a whole keto thread...

I just noticed your comment about fat or die, she is eating food isn't she? Not just starving herself hoping her body will learn to burn her fat stores and survive? That's not Keto by the way.
