Started on 60, then 40, 20 and now 10mg, down to 5mg next week.

Really feeling shaky in the mornings for a few hours after taking them which is not good as I nearly took then end off my finger this morning (sharp knives/chef). To be expected as the dose reduces?

Not that they are doing much good anyway.

I've had to take them a few times & they always gave me a bad stomach. If you are the same, Omeprazole helps a lot

Yep been taking those very morning with some toast. Wait half and hour and pop and handful of pills.

Wind and stomach pains for at least a couple of hours although thats a lot better now I'm down from 12 tablets at a time.

Never found I have the sakes from them, anger and moonface are regulars though!

Must have been lucky with them. Most I've taken for an extended spell (i.e. 3-4 weeks) was 30mg but then on quite a long taper after that. I was off the damn stuff completely about 18 months back but had a scare and got put back on 20mg. I'm now down to 5mg every other day and hoping to go lower still (and off them again) after my next appointment at the end of Jan.

Anyway, always taken them with Omeprazole so no stomach issues, piled on weight when I first started on them, probably could have prevented this but my already healthy appetite became insatiable. Was potentially borderline diabetic for a while. Now back down to a normal weight and all okay.

Never had the shakes though, or the moon face, or much else to be honest. Think I probably was a bit more stroppy when I first went on them mad No worse than the missus though at certain times of the month biggrin

Been on them for 12 years straight, down to 3mg at the moment but the Doc will ramp them up at regular intervals depending on my condition, was on 20mg 4 months ago. Won't ever come off them as my condition is chronic. Moonface, gut rot (actual damage to stomach lining), heartburn and mood swings on dosage changes are all par for the course. My weight fluctuates depending on the dose but I can get it off with fasting.

Not much fun but I'd be long dead without them.

Hate the stuff, but I have to take it sometimes. Lowest dose I've ever had has been 100mg, largest 5 days of 1000mg. My experience is that I'm "fine" when I'm on it (despite feeling like a rocketman destined for outer space and sleep only being granted by zopiclone) but it's when I stop that things go bad.

Shaky, generally just not feeling right, and at some point a massive hit of psychological symptoms and mood swings. I go completely nuts.

Hopefully I’ll never have to take any steroids.

I have an eye condition that means my sight would be seriously compromised if I did and potentially permanently (fluid leaks under the retina) Definitely not a side effect I want!

I had tremors from them, OP, and still have occasional shakey hands even though I've not taken them for years.

Also a moon face and massive mood swings.

I haven't had to take them for over 10 years now as doc put me on Azathioprene instead as the steroids had a bad long term effect on bone density among other things.

When i had them, apart from feeling like i could eat the cupboards as well as the food in them, a bit of weight gain and sometime feelings of weird despair or malaise for brief periods, i didnt have too much of an issue, just that they worked wonders for the crohn's but had a colonectomy of part of my large bowel and the aza and much better since, though still have bad periods.

Worst issue i had after coming off long term was i got rosacea on my cheeks that only went away in last few years.

Well, still on them down to 5mg. Not so shakey but muscle cramps and tightness and feeling like sh*t for 3-4 hours after taking them

One year on and I'm back to steroid eye drops as well rolleyes

I'd forgotten about the cramps. Seem to have subsided now I'm on alternating 5mg - 0mg - 5mg - 0mg.

Nothing worse than waking from a tortured dream to the realisation of ouch, ouch, ouch, that hurts, my calf has turned into a rock, and trying to get out of bed as quickly and as best as possible to stretch it without waking the wife.

My MiL has been on this for four years. It has been horrendous. Moon face, weight gain, tiredness and I think it has made her bad knees worse

Awful stuff. Reading up about it, it's amazing that nothing better has been found since it was invented in the 1950s

Tony I've always enjoyed your posts about cooking, you have my sympathies - I hope whatever the godforsaken stuff is supposed to treat disappears quickly

60mg! That's a high dose!
I was put on 30mg for my first week on Covid, then weaned off, but even that was 50% than my 'usual' 20mg for a bad asthma attack.

Hope you get sorted OK.

Started back on them this morning at 9am, still got the shakes now. Great rolleyes

Anyway, I'm going to use them as a reason to try to get fitter again.

Less booze, less rich and fatty foods, less sugar and more exercise.

Not because I've just restarted them but more an after effect of the first lot.

Has anyone experienced really bad wind, not so much farts as violent burping? Not just a few but pretty much every time you get up and move!
