Hi Mate hope all is well with you,
After our jaunt to Spain last year and too much walking playing golf and body pump classes I was in agony with my knee. Went to local GP and then self referral to the NHS physiology attached to the practice. He diagnosed the same complaint as you have and bizarrely the rehab was doing more of the same exercises that had caused it but many fewer reps. Basically although the mind was willing I'd overdone it and was suffering big style.
fast forward 5 months and the pain has gone, the acid test will be next month when we return to Spain and the fitness regime steps up in earnest. Physio advised wearing a patella support when exercising
