What type of bites are these?

Whilst on holiday in the Maldives my wife got bitten alot of times and thought they were mosquito bites. She was the only one who appeared to have been bitten; that was until we all got on the planes home and I noticed I’d been bitten too - in fact quite a lot of bites on both legs but all below my knees.
Whilst away I had been on antibiotics and am wondering if it delayed my reaction to the bites. Anyway here are a couple of close up of what mine look like now - any ideas?? I’m thinking either ants or spiders? They are about the size of a 20pence piece and itch like mad - woke up in the middle of the night and felt like I was clawing my legs of scratching!
