Coronavirus handwash question

I have just heard that whilst hospital grade handwash is 70% alcohol, commercially bought washes from the supermarket are nearer 62 or 63% it made me wonder if I bought a bottle of cheap vodka at 70% alcohol would that do as a handwash for frequent use ?

I should mention that the active ingredient is the alcohol .

Apart from the fact that cheap vodka isn't 70% abv, you'd be better off buying isopropyl alcohol and thickening it with glycerine, if you wanted to make your own.

Plainly I am no expert. I was just wondering what one could use in an emergency.

Soap and water. I guess methylated spirit would work too but you'd want to wash your hands after that anyway.

According to the female Doctor on BBC radio, just wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water for the time it takes to sing happy birthday twice.

I think it averages about 3 or 4 years between events where I have to sing happy birthday.

This seems excessive for hand washing.

Medical experts recommend any type of hand sanitiser with atleast 60-70% alcohol content.

You can buy alcohol gel online. This is same stuff used in hospitals. It’s not a replacement for handwashing. You need to wash with soap and water AND intermittently use alchohol gel.

Thorough wash wish soap and hot (warm) water for 20 seconds. Cheaper than alcohol rub and less likely to go out of stock. But don't forget that every time after that you touch something that someone else has touched then put your hand to your mouth/nose/face you risk transferring bugs. This virus is serving like nothing else as a reminder about the importance of hand hygiene, along with coughing or sneezing into tissues that are then disposed of so noone else can come into contact with your germs or vice versa.
