How long for new filling to settle down ?

I had a deep filling in a tooth last Wednesday 4pm its now 4 days on and the tooth is still very sensitive to hot and cold and feels sore, it doesn't feel like tooth ache pain at the moment but it doesn't really seem to be improving and its constant. Anyone else had a filling that took a while to settle and if so how long ?

It may need adjusting if it is high on the bite, ie it hits the opposing tooth before all the others meet. Otherwise I always advise people to give it 1-2 weeks to settle. If it gets worse or constant then come back. If it is improving then keep going, sometimes they can take a few weeks to fully settle down and not be sensitive to hot and cold.

The original sensitivity usually goes straight away. Sometimes the whole area is a bit tender for a day or two. I would call the dentist.

Thanks will give it a fortnight see if it settles don't really wont a root canal if I can avoid it.

Try using Sensodyne toothpaste - it's expensive though.
