I'm 61 T1 diabetic.
Not out, except garden and walking the dog, quiet places no people
Wife shops, chemist and joins me on a few walks, but no outside social interaction.
87 y/o MIL with heart condition, anxiety and, depression lives on her own 1/2 mile away
At the moment we're living in our own private bubble. Wife will chaperone MIL +MILs dog, to our house, for coffee, chat, and occasional meals. No hugging, plenty of personal space and hand washing.
If one of us becomes ill we have a 14 day contingency plan.
I've moved into the spare bedroom, but otherwise as normal about the house.
If MIL has only telephone interaction with her daughter it'll finish her mentally.
How would you play it?

Sounds about right.
Why have you moved in to the spare room? You and your wife are sharing the same space otherwise.
We're doing similar (but for different medical condition) but don't have a MIL nearby. We do have one daughter half a mile away that was rather upset yesterday that we wouldn't let her in the house or within 2m outside when she called round to walk the dog! (How long could the virus survive on a dog? Answers on a postcard!)
All other social contact by messaging and Facetime.

My mother in law is very hard of thinking. Age 80 and a total nightmare. She would mess up opening a paper bag.
She phoned the other day, no toilet rolls despite us telling her the day before that local supermarkets are opening for oldies and she may consider going. Today, she phoned up saying she is scared as she thinks she has it (sore throat and some mucus) she has no paracetamol at all and no other pain killers, despite her going to the Doctor about once per week although no underlying health issues.
She said she was going to phone A and E but we explained why she should not do that.
Locked herself out of her banking app and has now let the battery in her car go flat. It is a drama on a daily basis with her.

Double bed and breathing each others air doesn't seem good, we're not sharing bathrooms either. Just trying to minimise contact. Why have you moved in to the spare room? You and your wife are sharing the same space otherwise.
