Cancer/Coronavirus Question

I’ve seen on some of the stats that active cancer sufferers are on the list of vulnerable people.

I had kidney cancer and had my right kidney and ureter removed in December 2018. Luckily there was no sign of metastasis so I didn’t need any additional treatment apart from a chemotherapy flush in my bladder when my catheter was removed.

So my question is does this put me on the at-risk list? I’m fairly confident it does not but wanted to ask as I cannot seem to find anything online covering my specific situation.

Mrs G is just about to start a part time job in Waitrose and that’s what got me thinking as she’ll be on the front line so to speak.

I had similar concerns. Had bowel cancer about 2.5 years ago. Only treatment I had was surgery - no chemo/radio. Having annual scans or colonoscopies now. (well I was before all this blew up) My GP says this does not put me in one of the at risk categories.

As I understand things, its chemo & reduced immune system that's the risk rather than the cancer itself.

Cheers for that. I’m on 6 monthly cystoscopy and annual CT (was six monthly until Dec just gone) so am in the same boat as you.

That’s my understanding but my chemo flush was the bit that I was not sure about.

Good point - I assume all at risk get them.

My understanding is that there an 'at risk' group and a 'high risk' group. It is the second group that will receive a letter or text from the NHS about staying indoors. I think this is misleading as those who don't receive a message might assume they're not vulnerable yet they are.

Everyone is at risk - it's just where you are on that scale

Seems like age is a significant factor, independent of anything else

Given it's a flu like disease, I'd assume the flu jab thing identifies those above a certain threshold of risk - my wife was entitled to one, despite being just over 50 with mild asthma....

I’m 56 and good and healthy now so I’m going to assume all is OK!
