'Disinfectant wipe' etc

Soon I will have to venture out of Fort Simpo (if the car still starts) and get supplies for 2-3 weeks. Probably Morrisons, back-up Waitrose.

I have to assume that anything I touch - trolley handles, food, buttons on checkout - are infected. So I plan to wear gloves, and when I get back, want to wipe everything down as well as possible.

But what with? I'm not convinced that disinfectant kills viruses, though I hear 60% alcohol can. At present I don't have anything other than toilet cleaner, gin and meths. So what product should I look out for on my shopping trip please? (assuming the panic buying cretins haven't taken it all)

Actually meths is neat methanol, so might work!

I believe dettol at the recommended dilution level kills it. Whiffs a bit though

You will find that at Morrisons you will have to queue to get in , on a one in, one out basis and they have a sterilising solution to wipe the trolley handle and hand sanitiser to use pre and post shopping.

I think Waitrose were the first to do that, at least I saw it on the TV about a week ago. I'm sure they are all like that now, and not before time, but the issue is guessing which one has the least queues... at this time I'm more interested in waiting time than price.

Isopropyl alcohol is the thing to have, but I doubt you'll find that in your supermarket. I've got a load of it at work and am using it to wipe down where necessary.

I've got a couple of hundred litres of this at work. Unfortunately its mixed with Blue detergent as we use it as a hyperconcentrate it in our screenwash machines.

I suppose I could use it as a sanitiser and pretend that I am wearing blue rubber gloves 24/7.

It’s been the advice for some time, and been fully explained how it works.

Use whatever you have in terms of wipes etc when you visit the supermarket, just don’t touch your face until you’ve had time to wash everything. For 20s of course, and don’t pull your gloves off with your teeth.......
