Hi All,

Hope there is someone out there that can help me.

For the last 9 months, I have tried every remedy that my consultant and I can think of.

In fact, I tried the usual:

Caffeine shampoos
Tar shampoo
H&S
Baby shampoo
Redkin shampoo from USA
etc

This was before I went to see a private consultant, who then prescribed:

Oral tablets to rule out any infection
Topical lotions
Betacap
Dandazole
etc.

Nothing helps and now with the lock down I've not visited the dermatologist but to be honest, we were both scratching our heads (no pun LOL) before the lock down...

So now what?!

The worst part is that my head gets itchy.

Background is i'm fit and healthy, have a fairly busy/stressful job and have always had....I'm nearly in my mid forties...

I had dandruff as a late teen and that sorted itself out and ever since I've been fine and used whatever shampoo was in the bathroom (wife does the shopping).

Please help, happy to look in to alternative remedies and remember.....I'm one of those men that doesn't go to the doctor unless it has finally fallen off or the loss of bloody has made me pass out !

Water, apple cider vinegar and a few drops of tea tree oil. Spray this mix on and let it dry in.

Avoid booze, bread and sugars.

Report back.

Woody what percentage of Water/apple cider vinegar?

I like sugar and alcohol but I'm going to give it a try.

I mix a batch up in a container with spray nozzle head on it.
Say 500ml water, 100ml ACV and about 12 drops of tea tree.

Spray it on and it dries fairly quickly, leave it overnight,

Need to clean up the diet though.

All linked to gut health (presence of candida).

And void them caffine and tar shampoos as they dry the scalp out and make things worse.
Rub in some olive oil mixed with rosemary to moisturise the scalp.

I'd try the Ketogenic diet for a month or so and see if that helps.

No problem.

Drink a small glass of water with a tea spoon of ACV after breakfast really helps also.

Mine has really flared at the moment.

Partly it's the time of year as it always does that in the spring.

Worse this year due to the amount of white bread and booze going in.

I've not really had issues with dandruff, but I have suffered from an itchy scalp - I saw a thread previously on here which suggested this which seemed to help me:

You mention it's been happening over the last nine months, plus you've always had a stressful job. Has anything happened to increase stress levels beyond their norm during this period? Was there any reduction in symptoms over Christmas when perhaps you had a break from work?

As someone else referenced, your internal health might be suffering - it might be that your immune system (for instance) may not be as robust as it was simply due to age, and isn't able to keep on top of things.

White bread and booze must be avoided.

Hi Reverend,

Nothing has really changed, well nothing I can think of.

Maybe my internal health needs to get better.

When you say tablets to rule out infection, were they anti-fungal tablets?

Also notice you don't list nizoral (ketoconzale shampoo) on your list. I would try this, it was effective for me.

I've had this problem for many years. Keeping it under control seems to consist of washing my hair every day while avoiding any shampoo containing sodium laureth sulphate or sodium lauryl sulphate and keeping my hair short - as it grows longer the itching gets worse.

See if your Dr will try you on a course of itraconazole for a few weeks. This sounds fungal related so cutting out the sugar, carbs, booze will work wonders but the drug is stronger.

If they won't prescribe them then there's lots of natural anti-fungals out there, oregano oil, garlic, grapefruit seed extract.

Do you live in a moldy / damp home? Get the windows open and let the air in.

Hmm... vinegar, olive oil, water, rosemary... Doesn't the tea tree oil make the vinaigrette taste funny though?

The opposite of most advice works for me after suffering with similar for years, although I don’t think it will ever be cured.

Johnson’s baby shampoo, then a liberal amount of emollient on the scalp when you’ve mostly dried your hair.

Diprobase is what I’m using currently, it’s about £11 for 500g

+1

I have been using Diprobase for many years and it completely sorted my dry scalp. I used to be itchy all the time to the point of embarrassment and my scalp would get red raw, but all that cleared up when I was prescribed it by my Doctor.

I use it twice a day, once in the morning, and once in the evening at shower time. I rub a small amount in after my shower which works for me, although they do advise applying it before to protect the skin from drying out during washing.

I tried numerous shampoos but none of them did what they said they would do.

It does help if your hair is short, which could be a problem at the current time smile
